Who is HypnoBirthing for?
Home-birth, hospital birth, birth center, induction, epidural, cesarean........any birth that you choose.....there is not right or wrong way.
HypnoBirthing is for the first time mother who wants a natural birth but has her doubts.
It's for the second time mother who left her first birth experience thinking that was not how she imagined it should be.
It's for the mother who's had a cesarean and wants to prepare for a VBAC.
It's for the mother who wants to know all she can know so that she is fully prepared for a c-section, if that's her choice.
It's for the mother who is so petrified of hospitals and surgery that the idea of a c-section scares her.
It's for the father/birth companion who wants to be an active part of the life-affirming experience of birth.
It's for the baby.
The aim is to help moms (and companions) ask the right questions so that they know they have been fully in control of their babies’ birth, however it unfolds, and can leave their birth experience feeling empowered and at peace.
More manageable birth with lower intervention rates
Reduced discomfort and a potentially pain-free birth
More conscious birth (no drugs required if this is what you want)
Reduced chance of perineal tearing
More alert newborn (as a result of no exposure to induction drugs and/or anesthesia) who breastfeeds quickly
Reduced need for interventions
Hypnobabies are usually calm and content, with reduced chances of birth trauma
Faster recovery for the mother
Often shorter birth
What Hypnobirthing Isn't
It is not birthing through mind control. You will neither be be hypnotized nor entranced, and you will not be asleep. Instead, you are in a deep, self-induced state of relaxation, very much conscious and aware of what you are experiencing.
WHAT IS IT THEN?
Mongan Method HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. The method teaches you that, in the absence of fear and tension, or special medical circumstances, severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labor.
You will learn a number of techniques to take yourself into deep relaxation so your body shifts easily out of fight or flight mode - which inhibits labor and leads to pain - and into healing mode - a state where our body produces the endorphins and oxytocin essential for birth.
Hypnosis is similar to meditation, however, it focuses on a specific outcome and/or goal, and in this case it would be to eliminate fear and replace it with a complete confidence in yourself and your body's ability to birth as nature intended. When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing®, you will not be in a trance. What you will experience is similar to the daydreaming, or focusing, that occurs when you are engrossed in a book, movie or staring into a fire.
Hypnosis for birthing can help you achieve an ultimate depth of relaxation so that the body is loose and limp, and the birthing muscles, free of tension, can function as they are created to function. The mind can be a powerful tool.
